Make custom chains for FiveM

What a FiveM chain is made of

A wearable chain is a clothing add-on for the freemode peds:

• a drawable (.ydd) skinned to the neck and chest bones so it moves with the body;
• textures (.ytd) for the metal, the gems and the pendant;
• a .ymt that registers the item in a clothing slot, usually the accessory (neck) slot;
• the resource and manifest that stream it.

Most chains that look wrong in game were built as a rigid prop or skinned to the wrong bones, so they float off the chest or cut into the neck when the ped moves.

Design it on the real ped

1. Choose the chain: links, length and metal.
2. Add a pendant: upload a logo or image and it becomes a 3D pendant, or type lettering for a name plate.
3. Set the glow for gems and lettering. Keep it subtle; strong glow reads as a light source at night.
4. Check it on the ped in the 3D preview, then export.

Add it to your server

Install the resource and add the item to your clothing or appearance script like any other accessory. If you run many clothing packs, check the clothing YMT limit first: every pack is a collection, and GTA only loads a limited number of them per gender.

Tips

• One chain per crew with the same pendant style looks better than ten variations.
• Pendants with very thin parts lose detail at normal viewing distance; bold shapes read best.
• Keep text short on name plates.
