FiveM livery not showing? Fix it

A livery that does not appear, shows the old version or turns black is almost always one of four things: the car has no livery slot, the texture names do not match, the cache serves an old file, or the mod kit is missing.

How liveries work on a FiveM car

GTA has two livery systems:

  • Livery textures on the body: the model has a material that samples a livery texture (often named <model>_sign_1, _sign_2…), and the livery index selects which one.
  • Livery mods in the mod kit: separate livery parts listed in carcols.meta and selected through the mod kit in a tuning menu.

An add-on car that was never made with either has nowhere to show a livery, no matter what you put in the YTD.

The four usual causes

  1. No livery slot on the model. Adding textures does nothing if no material samples them. The car needs a livery material on the body panels.
  2. Wrong texture names. The names inside the YTD must match exactly what the model’s livery material expects, including the index suffix.
  3. Stale cache. The client keeps the old texture. Change the file, restart the resource and clear the cache to test.
  4. Missing mod kit or livery count. For mod-kit liveries, carvariations.meta must reference a kit that lists the liveries, and carcols.meta must be loaded before it.

Add a livery to a car that never had one

The Livery Mapper unwraps the body panels of any car into a clean livery sheet (hood, roof, trunk, doors and bumpers laid out separately), adds the livery material to the model and writes the metas. Paint the sheet in any editor, upload it, and download the car with the livery working in game.

Frequently asked

Why does my livery menu show no options?

The car has no livery slot: its model has no livery material, and its carvariations has no livery entries or mod kit for liveries. The Livery Mapper adds the livery material and writes the metas.

I updated the livery but the old one still shows. Why?

Clients keep a cache of streamed files. Bump the resource (rename the file or change its content), restart the resource and clear the client cache to test.

Why is my livery black or pink?

The texture name the model expects does not exist in the YTD, or the texture is in an unsupported format or size.
