Fix the FiveM oversized assets warning

When the server console warns that an asset uses too much physical memory, it is telling you one file will cost players far more VRAM than it should. That is a common cause of texture loss and stutter. Here is how to find the file and fix it without ruining the look.

What the warning measures

FiveM estimates how much memory each streamed asset needs once it is loaded, not how big the file is on disk. A texture stored compressed in a ZIP can still expand to tens of megabytes in VRAM, and an uncompressed texture costs up to eight times more than a compressed one of the same size.

The usual offenders:

  • 4K or 8K textures on props, cars and interiors, especially dirt, interior and detail maps.
  • Uncompressed textures (A8R8G8B8) where a compressed format would look the same.
  • Texture dictionaries over 16 MB, which FiveM refuses to stream in one piece.
  • Duplicate textures: the same image stored several times under different names.
  • Very dense models with LODs that are as heavy as the main model.

Find the file

The warning names the asset. For a pack with dozens of cars or an MLO with hundreds of props, scan the whole resource instead: the optimiser lists the memory cost of every streamed file, sorted, so you see what to fix first.

Fix it without losing the look

  1. Resize what is oversized, not everything. A 4K dirt map on a wheel nut becomes 512 px with no visible change.
  2. Compress what is uncompressed, except textures where hard edges matter (text, UI, decals).
  3. Remove duplicates and unused textures: images no material samples still cost memory.
  4. Only reduce meshes when they are the problem. Dense LODs on small props are worth cutting; a hero model players walk around is not.

Re-run the scan after: the warning should be gone and the resource smaller to download too.

Frequently asked

Is the warning just cosmetic?

No. It is FiveM telling you the asset is large enough to hurt streaming. Many such assets together cause texture loss, pop-in and crashes on weaker PCs.

Can I just split the YTD?

Splitting a texture dictionary over 16 MB lets it load, but the memory cost stays the same. Resizing oversized textures fixes the cause.

Will resizing make it blurry?

Not if you resize what nobody looks at closely: interior dirt maps, 4K maps on small parts, duplicates. Paint sheets and text that players read stay sharp.
